The Boundary Dam CCS Project rebuilt a coal-fired generation unit with carbon capture technology, resulting in low-emission power generation. In the fall of 2014, the project came online as the world’s first post-combustion coal-fired CCS project. This project transformed the aging unit #3 at Boundary Dam Power Station near Estevan, Saskatchewan into a reliable, long-term producer of 120 megawatts (MW) of base-load electricity, capable of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by one million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) each year, the equivalent of taking more than 250,000 cars off Saskatchewan roads annually. The captured CO2 is sold and transported by pipeline to nearby oil fields in southern Saskatchewan where it will be used for enhanced oil recovery.

Carbon Upcycling Technologies (“CUT”) uses the waste of today to build a better tomorrow by converting CO2 gas into solid products. CUT sells advanced solid products derived from greenhouse emissions and cheaply available solids. Since 2014, CUT has scaled its ability to convert CO2 emissions into value-add end materials by over a Million times and has since been confirmed as one of the top CO2 utilization companies in the world as a winner of the X-Factor Award in the NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE. Through its portfolio of CO2-derived solid nanoparticles, CUT has technically validated its solutions for use in concrete, plastics, and consumer products.

Carbonitum Energy Corp. (CEC) is a start up company developing a sustainable carbon recycling solution that integrates with existing industrial processes using synthetic biology, nanotechnology and process engineering. Carbonitum is developing an on-site carbon capture and recycle process to convert CO2 from industrial flue gas to methane for immediate reuse. The innovative process will lower the industrial users natural gas input costs and eliminate their CO2 emissions. CEC’s patent pending conversion of CO2 to methane is accomplished with two sets of bacteria, one of which is photosynthetic. Customers will include large natural gas consumers such as oil sands extraction companies, power generation facilities and other large final emitters.
